Four Seasons-Introduction

Lets look to Nature for clues concerning color and design.  Using the four seasons as a theme would give any home richness and variety, from fresh light airy looks to dark cocooning spaces.  The dark intimate look of winter opens to the pastel canvas of spring, the bright primaries of summer to the aging and deepening of the burnt golden colors of fall, and back to winter.

The Four Seasons environment is about change in mood, tempo and appearance. The Spring is tender and new and the soft pastels contrast with the winter palette of browns and greens. The pace of spring is slow as the earth emerges from its winter's nap. Spring hints of the lushness of summer in its blossoms and fresh greens. The summer is fast-paced and full of action. The summer landscape is lush and color abounds. In fall, the colors start to fade, hinting of winter, but offer a depth and richness of hue not experienced in any other season. The pace is slowing allowing for the slow, contemplative and reflective winter. In winter, we see the bones that supported the leafy dress of the trees. There is beauty in this perspective that was obscured by summer's dress of leafy greens.

Take your clues from the landscape of each season.

What elements of winter could be brought into the décor of a home?  The blue-green color of evergreens, the color of holly or cranberries or the snowy white are colors that could be used to recreate the impression of winter.  Crimson red wall with ivory upholstery with touches of forest green would use the colors of winter in a new way.  Another color approach that would give the sense of winter, would be to use teal blue as the wall color and cranberry colors for upholstery to create a cosy nest.
