Explanation of the terms used to define the Design Elements:

Theme:   The word or phrase that inspired the environment

Inspiration:  The creative thought or idea behind the word or phrase

Mood Created:  The feeling that the space has, in other words, its atmosphere

Elements:

• Floors-What the underfoot surface material would be if building the Environment
• Walls-What the vertical space should look like.
• Ceiling-What the overhead interior surface material is
• Windows-The glass openings that would be suitable to the theme
• Window Treatment-The suggested treatment for the windows

Degree of Contrast:  Range of light to dark tones, a comparison of values

Coloration:  The color scheme suggested by the theme, the hues and their tints and shades that would best create this look.

Textures:  The visual look and physical touch suggested by the Environmen

Lighting:  The suggested source of light and the amount of light required

Fabrics:  The textiles suitable to the them

Furniture:  Furnishings reminiscent and complimentary to the theme

Accessories:  The finishing touches that complete the look

Features:  Unique characteristic that would be exclusive to this Environment

Motif or Shapes:  Form or pattern that the theme calls to mind

Time of Day:  When the Environment is at its best, the time of day when the light is perfect.  For example, some of the environments require daylight, while others are best at night
